A long-winged katydid stands at the center with two grasshoppers on the ground below and three butterflies and moths above. Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677) etched this plate in 1646 from insects in the collection of the Earl of Arundel, as one of a series of natural history studies. This print reproduces the original etching, now in the public domain, from a high-resolution open-access image by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, with the plate mark, the warm tone of the old paper and its small foxing spots kept.
Why you'll love it
• A real 17th-century etching, reproduced in full - not a modern redraw
• Black and white line work that suits a study, library, bedroom or cabinet-of-curiosities wall
• Pairs with the other Hollar insect plates for a matching gallery wall
