On the steps of his house, an old father bends to embrace his ragged, kneeling son. "But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him" (Luke 15:20, KJV). Rembrandt etched the parable in 1636. This print reproduces the original, now in the public domain, from a high-resolution open-access image by The Metropolitan Museum of Art (object 371741), with the tone and texture of the old paper kept.
