Artwork source: Public domain (The Flight into Egypt: Crossing a Brook by Rembrandt, 1654) - The Metropolitan Museum of Art object 391986, Open Access · View the original. Reproduced in full from an archival scan of the public-domain original — not redrawn, not AI-generated.

Mary, holding the child close under her cloak, rides a donkey through a dark wood while Joseph leads them across a brook. "When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt" (Matthew 2:14, KJV). Rembrandt etched the scene in 1654. This print reproduces the original, now in the public domain, from a high-resolution open-access image by The Metropolitan Museum of Art (object 391986), with the tone and texture of the old paper kept.
