A carp swimming upward through swirling water and waterweeds, beside a panel of bold calligraphy, from a color woodblock print by Katsushika Taito II, a pupil of Hokusai, made in the early 1830s. In Japan the carp stands for perseverance and good fortune. This print reproduces the original woodblock, now in the public domain, from a museum archival scan.

Why you'll love it
• Real Edo-period artwork - not a modern imitation
• Deep greens, soft blue and black calligraphy that anchor a living room, office or entryway
• Pairs with Hiroshige's Sparrow and Snowy Camellia and Egrets amid Irises as a Japanese woodblock gallery wall

Print details
• 200gsm matte poster paper, archival inks
• Sizes: 11x14, 12x18, 16x24 inches
• Antique prints were not made in today's standard sizes, so we print with a paper-tone margin where needed to keep the full artwork - nothing is cropped
